SteerCo report template
A steering committee meets to make decisions, not to read status. This template puts the decisions first and keeps everything else to one page.
Page one: the summary
- Overall RAG and one sentence on why.
- Decisions needed today, each with options and your recommendation.
- Forecast end date and forecast cost against baseline.
RAG by area
- Schedule, cost, scope, resources and quality, each with a one-line reason.
- The trend since the last SteerCo: better, same or worse.
Top risks and issues
- No more than five, each with owner, impact and what you need from the board.
Budget
- Approved, spent to date, committed and forecast at completion.
- Make sure the totals match the cost lines underneath them.
Before you send it
- Check every number against its source.
- Pre-brief the sponsor on anything red.

How long should a steering committee report be?
One page for the summary and decisions, with detail in an appendix for anyone who wants it.
